Arsenal beat Lyon in Women's Champions League quarter-final first leg

Jonas Eidevall's side earn 1-0 victory thanks to Stina Blackstenius' late winner

The Gunners will take a slender lead into the second leg in France next week

Arsenal earned a narrow 1-0 victory over Lyon in the first leg of their Women's Champions League quarter-final at Emirates Stadium on Thursday.

Stina Blackstenius scored the only goal of the game in the 116th minute, capitalising on a defensive error to fire home from close range.

The result gives Arsenal a slender lead to take into the second leg in France next week, but Lyon will be confident of overturning the deficit at home.

The match was a tight affair throughout, with both sides creating chances but neither able to find the breakthrough in normal time.

Lyon had the better of the chances in the first half, with Ada Hegerberg and Melvine Malard both going close.

Arsenal improved after the break and had a number of chances of their own, with Vivianne Miedema and Stina Blackstenius both hitting the woodwork.

The game looked to be heading for a draw, but Blackstenius popped up with a late winner to give Arsenal the advantage.

The second leg of the tie will be played at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon on Thursday, 30 March.
